Who are we?
We, “the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB)”, founded by St. John Bosco, a nineteenth Italian priest, and educator, but officially known as “the Society of Saint Francis de Sales”, are recognized in the Catholic Church as a clerical religious institute of pontifical right, dedicated to apostolic works. We are a male religious congregation dedicated to apostolic and missionary activity and to the many works that Christian charity has given rise to, but above all, at the service of young people, especially the poorest and most abandoned. We are effectively present in 137 countries.
The Salesians have been in Myanmar since 1939. Salesian activity broadly expanded in reach that, as a positive consequence of this expansion, we are actively present in 5 dioceses in Myanmar, running parishes, boarding houses, training centers, and other apostolic activities. We are, at the present, 65 in number, including one cardinal and one bishop.
